The author was Rabbi of Lida, Lithuania, and then Kobrin. The book was published by his grandson, Rabbi Chanoch Henoch Shick. The second title page notes the author’s lineage traced back to Rabbi Yom Tov Heller and the Maharsha. Approbation of Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of New York and approbations of prominent Philadelphia rabbis including Rabbi Dov Ber Abramowitz.
[4] pages at the end of the book with a list of hundreds of Jews from Philadelphia, New York and Brooklyn who donated towards the publishing of this work.
The Hebrew press in Philadelphia was established in [1814]. That was when the first Hebrew Tanach was printed in the United States. Later, only prayer books and Passover Haggadot were printed. In 1895, Torah books for scholars were printed in Philadelphia, including this work, Sefer Yetzira and Tractate Rosh Hashana. These were the first Torah books printed in Philadelphia.
