‘Eshet Chayil’, a unique and interesting composition, an elucidation on Mizmor Eshet Chayil (Proverbs 31) and the virtue of marrying and having children. By Chacham Yitzchak Atiyah, one of the greatest rabbis of Aleppo and the friend of the Chid”a. First edition. Livorno, [1821]. Important dedication. Pedigreed copy.
On the margins of the title page, a lengthy and important dedication, in Oriental script, by the author’s son Chacham Moshe Atiyah, to the superlatively rich family David and Reuven Sassoon – the renowned noble family from Baghdad-London, known as the “Rothschilds of the East’. Chacham Moshe Atiyah blesses the philanthropist David Sassoon and his son Reuven with rare blessings of wealth and longevity. Needless to say that his blessing was completely fulfilled and the wealth of the Sassoon family continued for many generations (to this day) and they were among the wealthiest families in the world, alongside the Rothschild family, which had marital ties with them.
