Lengthy letter from the sacred Admo”r Rabbi Yehoshua Halberstam of Dolyna, great-grandson of the leading Admo”r of Galicia, the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. Halmin, 11 Nissan, 1818 [“ותער”ב”]. Scribal script signed by the Admo”r. Letters from him are exceptionally rare.
The letter is written to donors, and in it, the Admo”r asks them to support the tzaddik Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman Rabin, son of the gaon Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Rabin, av beit din of Kortshin, leading disciple of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz. The Admo”r blesses the benefactors “May the merit of this tzedakah and the merit of the mitzvah – which is very great, protect you and grant you success in all your ways, and may Hashem protect you from all evil and wraths of the times … May we soon merit the coming of the redeemer speedily in our days.”
The Admo”r’s rare signature appears at the end of the letter, “the youth Yehoshua Halberstam, son of Rabbi Moshe of Bardejov and son-in-law of the rabbi and tzaddik … [Rabbi Yehudah Tzvi Eichenstein of Zhidichov-Dolyna].”
His personal stamp appears next to his signature: “Yehoshua Halberstam, av beit din of Dolyna and environs.”
