“… to be inscribed and sealed immediately in the book of complete tzaddikim, may [you] and [yours] be in good health”
Exceptionally rare kvittel , entirely handwritten by the ra’ava”d of Jerusalem, Rabbi Pinchas Epstein, and sent to “The Honorable Ga’ava”d ” – none other than the gaon Rabbi Yoel Teitelbaum of Satmar. Jerusalem, 1962.
After his blessings to the Satmar rebbe, the ra’ava”d requests, “Try to remember to mention me in [your] prayers, because I am ill, suffering from pain in my legs for several weeks now. I am writing in short because my hands are tiring. I have no strength.” He states his name and his mother’s name. It is noteworthy that Rabbi Epstein was among the Perushim of Jerusalem, yet despite this, he writes to the Satmar Rebbe as one of the Chassidim – as a follower to his rebbe, with a request for a prayer, signing in his name with his mother’s name.
Aside from the important historic value of this letter, it is a “sacred item” that belonged to the gaon of Satmar, who held it in his hand, read it with his sacred eyes, and enacted salvations through it for the ra’ava”d of Jerusalem. The great value of kvittellach are well-known – through them, tzaddikim over the generations can see from one end of the world to the other.
