Fascinating family letter, full of blessings for abundant livelihood. Entirely handwritten by the second Admo”r of Slonim, the rebbe Rabbi Shmuel Weinberg. Slonim, 1893.
In this fascinating family letter, which would not have been appropriate to publicize had over a hundred years not already passed, we are made aware of the forlorn state (from many perspectives) of Rabbi Noach, the rebbe’s brother. In the letter, Rabbi Shmuel comforts his brother and encourages him: “Be strong, my dear brother, Hashem will counsel you with his lovingkindness and not let you falter – happy is he who finds strength in Him.” He blesses him with an abundance of blessings, primarily for abundant livelihood, beginning with a chronogram of that year (שפע רבא [תרנ”ג]).
Blessings for health, peace and joy appear along the length of the letter … “May you and all that is yours be granted peace.: “May Hashem rejoice in you for the good and bring you happiness”; “May you all be healthy and whole living in serenity and quiet…”; “May Hashem bless you with viable offspring and plentiful sustenance, blessings from Hashem, kul tuv, sela, amen”; “May we be privileged to live to see and hear goodness, blessing, life and peace forever” and more.
Later on in the letter, Rabbi Shmuel discusses practical steps to approach his brother’s distress, and various methods and possibilities for addressing them. Especially fascinating Chassidic-family-historic letter.
