“A treasure trove, the rabbi, the great light, sharp and expert” (Rabbi Shlomo Gantzfried, author of Kitzur Shulchan Aruch )
“Our sacred rabbis [the Admo”rim of Ruzhin] ordained him; his word is the halachah.” (The Admo”r of Boyan’s approbation)
Important and interesting letter dealing with a question in sta”m (and more) from the gaon and Chassid Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Sobelman, av beit din of Zbryzh Winkowitz and author of Shu”t Mahara”i MiZinkowitz (Jerusalem, 2005), a prominent Chassid of Ruzhin. Sent to his relative, the Admo”r Rabbi Aharon Aryeh Leib Heller of Lashkavitz. Zbryzh, 1878.
We will point out that these two questions are addressed in Rabbi Sobelman’s sefer , Shu”t Mahara”i Zinkowitz in multiple sections (2, 3, 4). However, this specific letter is not printed there. [What’s interesting is that in this letter, the author writes “as I was asked by a scribe who wrote … etc.] and in his sefer , Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak writes that he himself was the scribe who wrote the parshiyot when a mistake occurred.]
In the beginning of this letter, Rabbi Sobelman requests from the Admo”r, who was in attendance in the city of [“פרובוזיא”? Pohrebysce?] and he heard that they were seeking a rav umo”tz … He wrote him a letter previously asking him for his assistance to be accepted into the rabbinate, but in the meantime they already took a rabbi for themselves, so he is asking yet again, “There will likely be some city near you that will need a rabbi and moreh tzeddek , a place where a living can be made. I assume that [your honor], my relative, shlit”a , will mention my name there and let me know as soon as possible to see and be seen at [your] home.”
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon and Chassid Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Sobelman and of the addressee, the Admo”r Rabbi Aharon Aryeh Leib Heller of Lashkavitz .
