Finials. Silver. Egypt. End of 19th century.
Classic Egyptian style, with classical Egyptian names. Height 24 cm., diameter 7.5 cm., weight 0.610 kg.
Six chains with bells hang from each of the finials. One finial is missing two chains. Hebrew dedication in memory of פלור בת נחמה דרמון שנלב”ע בי”ב טבת שנת ה’ תרע”ט [Flor, daughter of Nechama Darmon who passed away on 12 Tevet in 1919]. [We believe that he dedication was engraved about 30 years after the finials were made].
Very rare Egyptian model. It was first listed in the exhibition of “Fifty Rimonim” held in the Museum of the Tel Aviv University [Zimbalista collection]. Number 25 of the catalogue edited by Rafi Grafman o.b.m are very similar to the ones here. They have similar height, diameter, number of chains and all other points.
These finials were definitely crafted by the same artisan in Egypt at the end of the 19th century. There are very slight differences between the two pairs, signifying their hand made construction. [Slight repair to the lead in one finial].
