Important and very beautiful bibliographic letter handwritten and signed by the sacred gaon Rabbi Moshe Mintz, av beit din of Alt-Ofen, one of the three gedolei hador , alongside the Chatam Sofer and Rabbi Akiva Eiger. Sent to the renowned gvir Rabbi Shlomo Rosenthal of Budapest. Ofen, 1824.
The content of the letter is a request for assistance for the Chatam Sofer’s disciple, the gaon Rabbi Mordechai Shlank, for printing Chiddushei HaRitv”a al Masechet Avodah Zarah . Chiddushei HaRitv”a was indeed printed that same year this letter was written (אפען=אויבן, תקפ”ד) and the Mahara”m Mintz’s approbation appears at the beginning of the first volume (refer to the attached photocopy). As an aside, the order of the approbations in the sefer demonstrates the Mahara”m Mintz’s prominence in his generation, given that his approbation is the first one printed – even before those of the Chatam Sofer, the Mahara”m Bennet and the gaon Rabbi Akiva Eiger (the order of the approbations generally follows the relative prominence of the rabbis).
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for brief biographies of the sacred gaon Rabbi Moshe Mintz, author of Shu”t Mahara”m Mintz and of the addressee, Rabbi Shlomo Rosenthal .
