Organisation Todt was a government organisation in Nazi Germany established in 1933. The Organisation planned, administered and built large construction projects of strategic importance. The organisation was named after its founder, Fritz Todt, inspector general of German roadways and Reich minister of armaments and ammunition in Nazi Germany. After the founder’s death in 1942 when his airplane crashed, Albert Speer was appointed to this role. The organisation used forced laborers, concentration camp prisoners and prisoners of war from occupied countries. At the peak of its operation, the organisation was responsible for 1,300,000 people who labored in its framework, of whom one million were forced laborers.
