In 1935, the prime minister of Lebanon ( عبد الله بيهم Abdallah Beyhum) invited the soccer team Maccabi Tel Aviv to a showcase game in Beirut against the Renaissance team, with the goal being less sport and more political-declarative, designed, according to the press in the Land of Israel, “to bring hearts closer and strengthen ties between the peoples of the two countries.” To that end, the Lebanese prime minister donated a large trophy (shown in the picture). The game ended in a 2-2 tie, and the prime minister decided to give the trophy to Maccabi, in order to express his feelings of appreciation to the team for coming.
