The author, Rabbi Mordechai Weitzel Rosenblatt [1836-1916] – “The Tzaddik of Oshmiana, ” was known in Lithuania as a Kabbalist and salvation-worker, an exceptional phenomenon in Lithuania. Many flocked to Oshmiana to receive his blessing, and notices were posted in period newspapers with the hours he received people at his home. This book was published by his disciple, and in the foreword he writes about the development of writing this book. ‘Birkat Yesharim’ – a blessing from the tzaddik for the residents of Oshmiana – printed at the beginning of the book.
