Letter – halachic inquiry handwritten and signed by the Admo”r Rabbi Meshulam Zusha Rabinowitz from Arel-Kontikoziva addressed to the great gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin, who added the responsum in his own hand on the letter with the inquiry. Arel, 1905 [chronogram “עת הקץ”].
The letter was sent on 16 Adar II – thirty days before Passover began, and the Admo”r already sent Passover greetings. Its content is regarding taharah and kashering “porcelai” (porcelain?) dishes. He concludes, “I remain one of his beloved and devoted admirers, anticipating salvation … the small one, Meshulam Zusha.
On the letter with the inquiry, the gaon Rabbi Chaim Berlin wrote his impressive answer – eleven lines in his handwriting, on the leaf bearing the question. This offers a small window into recognizing Rabbi Chaim’s great genius and his clear analysis.
Unsigned. This responsum was printed in the book Nishmat Chaim (Jerusalem, 2008), pp 186-188.
