Reasoned and abbreviated halachic responsum handwritten and signed by the mighty gaon Rabbi Yitzchak Shmelkish, one of the major responders of his generation. Sent to Rabbi Avraham Schorr, av beit din of Monasterishtche. Lvov, 1897. Letters from him are very uncommon.
The responsum deals with the laws of
treifah . In contrast to many responders, Rabbi Yitzchak wrote a short summary of the question at the top of the letter, so that we have here the complete question-and-answer.
This responsum does not appear in the six-volume [!] responsa series
Beit Yitzchak . The responsum was printed only recently, in the
Moriah anthology 356-357 (Jerusalem, 2010), page 62.
