The author’s identity is still unclear. Some believe that it was written by Rabbi Shimon Kayyara, a 9th century Babylonian gaon. Rishonim quote this work many times, sometimes with the initials בה”ג. Introduction by the author at the beginning. This was the first introduction ever written for a Hebrew book. Antiquated owner signatures.
