An excerpt from the book Bikurei Aviv by the
Rebbe of Radzymin,
Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh Gutterman, in his handwriting.
[2] pages, 21×17 cm. Large and legible handwriting. Torah ideas on
Parshat Vayakhel from his book
Bikurei Aviv. The book was printed from his manuscript, Pietrokov, 1936.
The handwriting of the Rebbe of Radzymin is known as a
segulah. The Rebbe of Gur, author of the
Lev Simchah , related that when he escaped during the Holocaust, his father, the author of the
Imrei Emet , gave him a manuscript of the Rebbe of Radzymin and told him that it is “a
segulah for protection.” He added that he very clearly knew that it was incredibly rare that his father defined something as a
segulah , and especially as protection, and after the war when the “Lev Simchah” obtained a manuscript from him he was very happy. See more in the book
Libam Shel Yisrael , the biography of the Rebbe, pages 397-399.
Rabbi Yaakov Aryeh of Radzymin (1792-1877) was one of the fathers of Chassidut in Poland. In his youth he learned from the Chozeh of Lublin and the Maggid of Kozhnitz and later from
HaYehudi HaKadosh and Rabbi Simchah Bumin of Peshischa. After the death of Rabbi Yitzchak of Varki, he began to serve as a Rebbe in Radzymin. He lived a long life and was considered to be the “elder of the Rebbes” in his generation and very influential. He was well-known as a holy man and a miracle worker and many streamed to his court, among them famous Rebbes and rabbis. Among his grandsons who are named after him are the present Rebbes of Gur and Amshinov.
