Condolence letter upon the passing of Sir Moshe Montefiore, signed by the Sephardic and Askenazic rabbis of Chevron. The letter is addressed to Yosef Sabag, Moshe Montefiore’s nephew, responsible for his last will and testament; and to Dr. Eliezer HaLevi, Moshe Montefiore’s secretary. Chevron, 1885.
Beautiful poetic letter in scribal script – calligraphy and block letters. The letter is surrounded by a black mourning border. Signed by the two rabbis of Chevron, the gaon and Kabbalist Rabbi Eliyahu Saliman Manne, av beit din of Chevron (signature and stamp), and a signature of the pious gaon Rabbi Shimon Menashe Chaikin, rabbi of the Ashkenazic community of Chevron for about seventy years.
