The Petach Tikvah colony was founded in 1879, primarily by members of the Old Yishuv. The problem during the early years was that there were many new members who did not fit in with the spirit of the Old Yishuv, which caused a split between the residents. The final blow was the upcoming Shemittah year, 1882. The colony split into two, the zealots vs. the progressives. Each side published its own book of regulations. This is a copy of the book published by the zealots, who were supported by Rabbi Yehoshua Leib Diskin, Av Beit Din of Brisk-Jerusalem.
