“May the merit of our sacred forebears, shepherds of the Jewish people … protect us”
Historic-Chassidic invitation to the marriage of the sacred Admo”r of Belz, shlit”a – one of the leading Admo”rim of the generation, to his pure spouse, a daughter of Rabbi Moshe Yehoshua Hager, author of Yeshuot Moshe of Vizhnitz (who is not mentioned in this invitation at all). Tel Aviv, 1965.
This unique historic invitation is tragically signed “Va’ad Chassidei Belz” – those who raised the bridegroom, who was orphaned of his father. Since the passing of his uncle, when he was a boy of just nine years, the Va’ad took responsibility to raise him and prepare him for the mantle of leadership as shepherd of the sacred courtyard of Belz, immediate successor of four pillars of the world (the Sar Shalom, the sacred rebbe Rabbi Yehoshua’leh, his son the Mahari”d, and the rebbe Rabbi Aharon of Belz).
The ” mechutanim ” announce the wedding date on this invitation, mentioning him by name, in the name of his sacred father and in the name of his grandfather, the Mahari”d of Belz. Rabbi Aharon of Belz is mentioned incidentally in the invitation to the aufruf and the forshpiel , to be held “in the home of the bridegroom’s uncle, the Admo”r, leader of the entire Jewish people, the rebbe, ztzkl”h of Belz. Tel Aviv, Echad HaAm street.”
The celebration of this wedding between the two large Chassidic courts was described at the time as the largest Chassidic wedding to take place since the Holocaust. Estimates maintain that there were approximately twenty thousand people at the chuppah. The general media in Israel provided extensive coverage of the wedding and the attendant celebrations.
