Igeret HaTiyul, by the Divine Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim ben rabbi Bezalel of Friedberg, the older brother of the Mahara”l of Prague (whom the ‘Ohev Yisrael’ of Opatow himself printed one of his books and wrote about him frighteningly intense things. See below). Printed purely at the renowned printing house of Rabbi Chanina Lipa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heschil Shapira, the grandsons of the rabbi of Slavuta. Zhitomir, 1857. Lacking the last leaf.
On the title page, the author writes that he titled the book ‘Igeret Tiyul’ so that everyone could take a trip to the Parde”s of pomegranates to gather roses and find peace for his soul … per Pardes P’shat R’emez D’rash S’od”. The book which is small in quantity yet large in quality contains wonderous Drushim and deep secrets which nevertheless can be understood by all.
A surprising fact, which some would call miraculous, should be noted. In the paragraph beginning with the letter “shin” (p. 30) Rabbi Chaim, the brother of the Mahara”l writes: “Ba’al Shem Tov wrote he heard from his rabbis” and later in the paragraph “and he wrote that this is not to distance the Chassidim” etc. see there. The wonder is that Rabbi Chaim, the brother of the Mahara”l, lived approx. two hundred years before the Besh”t. (Indeed, there were several ‘Ba’alei Shem’ before the Besh”t – yet it is customary that the title ‘Ba’al Shem Tov’ was reserved only for the Besh”t). Apparently, there is a reason why the ‘Ohev Yisrael’ of Optaow wrote of him the frightening titles: “Holy mouth, Marana and Rabana, Minister of Torah, Aspaklaria HaMeira Rabbi Chaim ben Rabbi Bezalel, since every speech and speech were said by Ruach HaKodesh”.
The Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim was considred a holy and wonderous man among the Chassidim and Mitnagdom alike and his books were printed many times, encouraged by Chassidic leaders. The Admo”r Rabbi Avraham Yehoshua Heschil author of the ‘Ohev Yisrael’ of Opatow, who himself printed one of his books – ‘Sefer HaChaim’ wrote of him: “All his words were said by Ruach HaKodesh”! In addition, starting with the Vilna edition, in all editions of the Shas, at the end of each of its tractates, appears the inscription: “An adequate commentary on this you will find in Sefer HaChaim by the brother of the Maharal”.
