“Kol Shavat Bat Ami.” Printed letter with signatures of the rabbis of the batei din of the Ashkenazic communities regarding their opposition to the educational law discussed in the Knesset in September, 1949. “Our innards are scorched and our eyes are darkened to see the suggested educational law presented by the government of the State. The educational law prohibits and steals the right of opening Talmud Torahs in our holy land…if it will chas v’shalom, take effect, it will be a blockage falling on Torah and Talmud Torahs and will be a “gezirat shmad.” The margins bear the signatures of various rabbis, including Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, gav”d of the Eidah HaCharedit in Jerusalem; Rabbi Dovid HaLevi Jungreiss, and other signers.
