Important halachic responsum about the kashrut of gelatin from Rabbi Eliezer Silver, Av Beit Din of Cincinnati and one of the leading adjudicators in the United States. Lithograph with one handwritten line.
Rabbi Silver turns to the sages of Jerusalem in a lengthy letter on behalf of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada. He described all the questions, all the stages of the industrial processing and the lab techniques. Only then does he delve into the depths of the topic [and his inclination is to be stringent] and request that the sages of Jerusalem look into it and render their opinion.
Refer to the Hebrew text for a brief biography of Rabbi Eliezer Silver and a short discussion of the issues related to the status of gelatin.
