Complete notebook with [46] pages handwritten by the great gaon Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky, head of the famous Ponovezh yeshivah. The notebook includes novellae on Tractate Pesachim. His signature appears twice on the inner side of the notebook cover.
As is known, Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky wrote very little, and most of his Torah ideas were transmitted for generations through his disciples’ notes. [Refer to his son’s foreword to Shiurei Rebbe Shmuel al Masechet Makkot. ] Thus the great rarity of this manuscript, containing [46!!] leaves filled with his Torah novellae, written in his own handwriting. It also gives a glimpse of Rebbe Shmuel’s famous golden tongue, and his rare explanatory abilities, unparalleled in his generation – and even in previous generations.
In a dream I shall speak to him: Legend has it that Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky was so immersed in Torah that he would even innovate novellae in his sleep, and would immediately note them when he awoke (often in the middle of the night) so that he would remember them. It may be that there is support for this fact in this notebook, given that several leaves are written in the opposite direction of most of the notebook leaves, something that could happen while one is sleeping…
