Approximately twenty printed leaves of Torah novellae by the gaon Rabbi Ya’akov Yisrael Kanievsky – The Steipler, with dozens of corrections and glosses in preparation for print. Some of the glosses are especially lengthy. All are in the Steipler’s hand. The leaves include some of his monumental book Kehilot Ya’akov with many glosses, also in his hand.

Kehilot Ya’akov with glosses and additions in preparation for print for the new edition. As is known, the Steipler did not erase words, rather he marked the incorrect word and wrote the correct word alongside it.
Rabbi Ya’akov Yisrael Kanievsky [1899-1985] was called ‘The Steipler’ after the name of his hometown, Hornosteipel. The Steipler was known as a gaon and a tzaddik in all his ways. He was one of the leaders of the Charedi community and author of the
Kehilot Ya’akov series of books. The Steipler was a brother-in-law of the Chazon Ish and father of, may he be distinguished for life, Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, shlit”a. He was a man of wonder and a wonder-worker who fled from honor and authority his entire life, but voiced his opinion when necessary, and was always unquestionably accepted.
