Background: Rabbi Aharon Roth [1894-1947] was a member of the Shomrei Emunim which generated the Toldot Aharon and later Toldot Avraham Yitzchak chassidut. He was known as “Rebbe Aharale,” still today, members of this community from the “yishuv hayashan” in Jerusalem are known as “Rebbe Aharlech.” He was born in Ungvar. His father was a butcher, and he himself established his own dynasty, a very rare phenomenon. He was a disiciple of Rabbi Zvi Elimelech Shapiro of Bluzhov, who gave him smicha to serve as Admor. In 1939, he immigrated to Eretz Yisrael and became one of the strongest opponents of Zionism. He was an ascetic and demanded that his chassidim live modest, ascetic lifestyles. He authored many works, including Shomer Emunim and Teharat HaKodesh.
