Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, the Admo”r the RaYYa”Tz [1880-1950], sixth Admo”r of the Chaba”d Lubavitch dynasty, which he led from 1920 until his passing. After his wedding in 1897, his father appointed him acting principal of the “Tomchei Temimim” Chaba”d yeshivah, which was established that same year. Shortly after the outbreak of the Communist Revolution, his father passed away and he was appointed leader of Chaba”d Lubavitch Chassidism. Due to Communist Persecution, he established a secret network of “Talmudei Torah” and yeshivahs in the USSR. The Admo”r the RaYYa”Tz was very active in providing many religious and Jewish educational needs, which were illegal in the USSR. He arrived by ship from Stockholm to New York in 1940. Soon after, he purchased the famous 770 building where he lived his final years. It eventually became the Chaba”d world center.
