* Letter written, signed and stamped by Rabbi Alter Eliezer Horowitz, av”d Staszow. The letter was sent to Rabbi Yosef Lipman Gurewitz, rabbi of Melbourne and asks him to “use all possible means” to pressure a recalcitrant husband to give a divorce to his unfortunate wife. He married her in Staszow but later fled to Australia and disappeared.
Rabbi Alter Eliezer Horowitz (killed 1943) was the son of Rabbi Avraham Simcha, of the Ropshitz dyansty. He was appointed rabbi of Baranow in 1909, moved to Riglitz in 1922 and later served as av”d in Staszow, Poland. He was murdered in sanctification of God’s name in the Holocaust in 1943.
