Letter handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Chanoch Henich Fisher to Rabbi Yisrael Ullman, son of the Yeriot Shlomo .
At the beginning of the letter, Rabbi Chanoch Fisher praises Rabbi Yisrael Ullman extensively: “Life and blessing for the safeguarder of peace, to the treasurehouse full of garnet, sapphire and diamonds, my beloved friend … the wondrous and the exalted … wholly of Torah virtues, Torah honor, Rabbi Yisrael Ullman. The letter deals with whether a nursing mother is permitted to marry, and personal matters between the two.
Rabbi Chanoch Henich Fisher [1826-1896], born in Eszék to his father Rabbi Yaakov Fisher. He studied in the Pressburg yeshivah under the author of Ktav Sofer , and in the Nitra yeshivah under the gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Benet. He also studied in Prague, in the yeshivah of Rabbi Leib HaLevi Gluga-Shlezinger and the rabbi of the city, Rabbi ShY”R Rapoport. In 1852 he was appointed Av Beit Din of Donna-Fuldwar, and beginning in 1864, he moved on to serve as Av Beit Din of Makó to take the place of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Ullman (who had passed away in 1863).
