He asks for the addressee’s opinion regarding a shidduch for Esther, a young woman of age who must to decide whether to marry a certain young man, although he was not proficient in Torah. He asks for an immediate answer since both were interested in marriage, and the delay could cause the shidduch to fail.
Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Broyde was the son-in-law of the author of Kitzur Shulchan Aruch, Rabbi Shlomo Gantzfried. He was a dayan in Ungvar and published Torah novellae in a number of journals. His son Rabbi Chaim Broyde was a leading researcher of the medieval poetry of Spanish Jewry.
