Letter from two rabbinic leaders of the generation, Rabbi Shmuel Salant and Rabbi Eliyahu David Rabinowitz Teomim, author of Adere”t , to Rabbi Zalman Breuer, Av Beit Din of Frankfurt am Main. 10 Cheshvan, 1904.
The letter, written in scribal script, is on rare joint(!) stationery of the two personages. The rabbis of Jerusalem tell of the poor, dilapidated state of the city’s mikvehs and the need to renovate them. The letter describes the structure of the mikvehs in great detail. As is known, towards Rabbi Shmuel Salant’s old age, his vision weakened, and by his request, the Adere”t ascended to Jerusalem to serve as his successor after his passing. But the Adere”t passed away in Rabbi Salant’s lifetime, in 1905, four years before Rabbi Salant, who lived to the advanced age of 93.
