Autograph, 8 lines in his hand, with his signature. The Rabbi answers a question regarding financial obligations and requests that the addressee send him “letter by letter, the conditions of the obligation” he adds: “I will try iy”h to do this as early as possible, due to my many affairs I will summarize.”The second leaf served as an external envelope with traces of a wax seal and the addressee’s name in the Rabbi’s hand.
Rabbi Meshulem Zalman HaKohen [1739-1820], the Maharza”ch, rav”d of Furth and Rosh Yeshiva of Furth, was a prominent disciple of Rabbi Yehonatan Eibshitz. He authored the Shu”t V’Chidushei Maharazch – Bigdei Kehuna. He established a Torah world in Ashkenaz, and his disciple, Rabbi Avraham Wolf Hamburg wrote “almost all the scholars in our location are his disciples.” For many years he wore sackcloth and was greatly pained over the travails of the Jewish Nation.
