Letter of approbation from Rabbi Eliyahu Guttmacher from Greiditz, [1874]. Personally handwritten and signed. Among the last letters he wrote. [1] leaf paper. 14 x 14 cm. Exhibited is an approbation he gave to Midrash Tanchuma with the explanation of Rabbi Avraham Meir Rosen printed in 1878. The approbation was given in the month of Elul 1874 and he died on the 24th of Tishrei 1875. Rabbi Eliyahu Guttmacher — the Tzaddik from Greiditz [1795-1874] was a disciple of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, studied Kabbalah and was drawn to Chassidut. He was Rabbi in Palshan and afterwards in Greiditz. Known as the Tzaddik from Greiditz, many came to him for blessings. Even Tzaddikim such as the Sfas Emes from Gur asked him for a blessing. Published articles in various Torah periodicals and he authored the book Tzafnat Paneach. Invested much effort to strengthen the Jewish settlement in Israel. Very fine condition.
