“This is our entire desire and goal – that my son-in-law [the gaon Rabbi Meir Tzvi Bergman shlit”a] be able to sit and study and rise higher and higher in the virtues of Torah, because he is very intelligent and diligent”
Precious letter from the rabbi of the entire Jewish people, the gaon Rabbi Elazar Mann Shach, ztz”l, rosh yeshivah of Ponovezh and leader of the Council of Torah Sages, teacher of the sacred Torah to the previous generation. He wrote this while in Jerusalem and sent it to his friend, the wondrous gaon Rabbi Chaim Kreiswirth, ztz”l, ga’ava”d of Antwerp. In it, he blesses him to be inscribed and sealed for the good, in the upcoming new year (תשי”ב), and he also expresses his gratitude for the package he sent to him.
On 8 Sivan, 1951, Rav Shach’s daughter married the gaon Rabbi Meir Tzvi Bergman, shlit”a, may he live long and well, and they moved to Bnei Brak. Inter alia , he writes about his son-in-law the gaon. Due to our appreciation for his words, we will quote him, “Baruch Hashem, our daughter and my son-in-law have settled in to Bnei Brak, in the kollel run by the gaon, the author of Chazon Ish , and this is our entire desire and goal – that he be able to sit and study and rise higher and higher in Torah, because he is very intelligent and diligent, may Hashem help him succeed.”
At the end of his letter, Rav Shach writes a note about a gemara in Sanhedrin, that remains unresolved.
He also sends regards to the Rebbetzin from his Rebbetzin.
