The letter was written “here in Livorno in the parashah of ‘How good are your tents, Jacob,’ 1783” by Rabbi “Rafael…Miledulo,” and was sent to the rabbi of the city of Torino, Rabbi Michael Shlomo Yonah.
Rabbi Rafael ben Rabbi Elazar Miledulo was the av”d and Rosh Yeshivah of Pisa and Bayonne, France, and later returned to his birthplace, Livorno, where he served as the Rosh Yeshivah of the Etz Chaim Yeshivah. He authored the responsa Mayim Chayim on the four sections of the Shulchan Aruch. Rabbi Rafael edited the Ramchal’s book Derech Tevunot (Amsterdam, 1742) and signed on the approbation to the book Shivah Einayim (Livorno, 1745).
