Letter with important and interesting content handwritten and signed by the gaon Rabbi Eliyahu Meir Feivelson, av beit din of Kupishok – one of the leading rabbis of Lithuania in his generation. Sent to the renowned activist, Rabbi David Potash of Tel Aviv. Kupishok, 1924.
The letter discusses building up the Land of Israel – establishing a wool blanket factory there. The letter was written on behalf of one of Rabbi Feivelson’s friends, a major real estate owner in Yekaterinoslav and Bialystok. Said friend also owned a blanket factory in Bialystok, and wished to establish such a factory in the Land of Israel. He was seeking partners for this venture. Rabbi Feivelson cautiously explains the chances of success of such an enterprise, and that the investment can be recovered within half a year.
Rabbi Feivelson concludes his letter by revealing to his friend Rabbi Potash that his heart’s desire is also to ascend to the Land and be endowed with the dust of the Land of Israel. He raises the point that establishing the factory may also provide a path to livelihood, possibly enabling him to fulfill his dream of ascending to the Land – “Is anything beyond Hashem?”
