The artist Raphael Avraham Shalem [Ra”sh] was born in Salonika in 1888. He was an alumnus of the first class at Bezalel, and later taught there as well. This painting was prepared for print already in 1916, as appears on the painting. However, the printing expenses were too high for him and he only printed it in 1937. He passed away in 1986.
