Corrected edition of Likutei Amarim – Tanya by the Alter Rebbe, Shneur Zalman of Liadi. Vilna, 1900.
[3], 2-163 leaves. 18 cm. Two title pages at the beginning of the book.
This edition was prepared after proofreading and corrections according to old manuscripts that were discovered in the possession of the grandchildren of the Rebbe, author of the Tzemach Tzedek, on which were the main part of the author’s manuscript with additions and corrections edited by Rabbi Asher of Nikolayev.
On the reverse side of page 163 is a poem by the publisher praising the Rebbe Rashab. The first letters of the first and last word of of each line spells out the name of the Rebbe and of his father. The Rebbe ordered this leaf to be torn out and not to be circulated, and to print a new leaf in its place. The bibliographer of Lubavitch books, Rabbi Yehoshua Mondshine, writes that in all of the copies that he has seen, page 163 was removed and replaced by a new leaf (blank on its reverse side) and other corrected leaves were added to these original leaves: 14, 21, 33, 43, 76, 140, 143 and 152. Mondshine mentions one known book with the original leaf which is found in the Lubavitch Library [refer to his book Torat Chabad Bibliographia L’Sifrei Admorei HaZaken part one 107-108].
The copy before us has all of the original leaves, including the last leaf.
