Sefer Gedolim Ma’asei Hashem . Elucidations on the Torah and topics on the Exodus from Egypt. With the entire haggadah text and a broad commentary on the haggadah by Rabbi Eliezer Ashkezani. Venice, 1583. First edition of this important commentary that was later printed in many editions. Pedigree copy. Glosses. Important, sought-after sefer : one of the first commentaries ever composed on the Passover Haggadah, and one of the first Passover haggadahs printed at all – and in Venice in particular. Pedigree copy: The title page bears the signature of Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim Voltera and several comments in his script along the entire haggadah – including some lengthy ones. One of the glosses (133a) is a correction by its writer of the common text in all the haggadot: “וְנֹאמַר לְפָנָיו שִׁירָה חֲדָשָׁה הַלְלוּיָהּ” claiming that according to the Rishonim this is a mistake; it should be: “וְנֶאְמָר לְפָנָיו שִׁירָה חֲדָשָׁה הַלְלוּיָהּ” – a minor change in the vowelization of the first word. Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a brief biography of the gaon Rabbi Chaim Voltera . Not listed by Ya’ari. Otzar HaHaggadot 30. 6, 197 leaf, 28 cm. Fine condition. Professional restoration of the margins of the title page. Aging stains. Several worming perforations. New semi-leather binding.
