‘Kiddush Levanah’ – magnificent manuscript in large letters (‘Kiddush Levanah lettering’). Red and black. Made by artist Chaim Levi Birnbaum of Kežmarok, Slovakia.
The manuscript before us contains the tried-and-true segulah attributed by some to the Ruzhiner Rebbe – to recite Kiddush Levanah three times “and he will not have toothaches.”
The expression ‘Kiddush Levanah lettering’ that indicates especially large letters stems from the fact that Kiddush Levanah was recited outside under the stars, in the dark hours of the night, such that the text had to be written in especially large letters. This is also the reason behind the wax stains on this manuscript, a remnant of the candles by which kiddush levanah was recited.
