Copy of the polemic work against Christianity, Klimat HaGoyim , by Rabbi Yitzchak ben Moshe HaLevi (1350-1415), author of Ma’aseh Efod , handwritten by Chacham Rabbi Uri Chai Sarawal. Trieste, 1837. Written approximately 200 years before the sefer was printed for the first time!
Stunning manuscript, in Rash”i script, in beautiful typography, on large sheets of light-colored, high-quality Italian paper. The beginning of the manuscript is graced with a title in red ink: Sefer Kilmat HaGoyim , followed by the complete work consisting of 12 chapters, including comments and glosses in the margins of the pages. After the conclusion, there is a rhyming poem (also appearing in the printed version), and then an additional part called Teshuvot L’Anshei On . Printed in the colophon at the end of the manuscript: “I copied this from a very ancient manuscript in Menachem [Av], 1837 – I, Uri Chai, son of Shlomo Chai Sarawal, z”l.
We will point out that in the printed text we have, ( Klimat HaGoyim V’Iggeret al Tehi K’Avotecha , Jerusalem, 1985 ), the Teshuvot L’Anshei On part was not printed, nor was it included in several other manuscripts, with the exception of a manuscript from the 17th/18th century in the Palatina Library (Italy), which may be the very ancient manuscript from which Rabbi Uri Chai copied this manuscript here.
Refer to the Hebrew catalog text for a short discussion of the polemic work opposing Christianity, Klimat HaGoyim , and a brief biography of Chacham Rabbi Uri Chai Sarawal .
