Maor VaShemesh – kabbalistic work. Livorno, 1839. First and only edition, by Rabbi Yehudah Koriat, grandson of Rabbi Yehudah Ben Attar, with ancient Sephardic script. With approbation from Rabbi Chaim Pinto (I). There is only one other approbation known to have been given by him. Introduction by Rabbi Eliyahu Ben Amuzag. The composition is based on the words of the Ramba”n, the Ar”i, Rabbi Avraham HaLevi and Rabbi Yehudah Ben Attar. With the addition of hymns by the author, and a commentary to the hymn Aleinu LeShabeach sent by Rabbi Hai Gaon and found in an ancient manuscript. The name of the city of print on the title page, Livorno, is written poetically as: “לי-אור-נא” [loosely translated as “Please illuminate me”]. The author’s name is also written on the title page only poetically: “אַנִי קָטָן יָקְטָן מַעַטָן מן הַמַעַטָן” [with יָקְטָן being the first letters of the author’s name: יהודה קורייאט טוב נרו].
