Official Edah Chareidit of Jerusalem marriage certificate. Signed by Rabbi Yitzchak Ze’ev HaLevi Soloveitchik – “The Brisker Rav,” who officiated. Unique item. As is known, this was the only time the Brisker Rav agreed to officiate at a wedding in the Land of Israel (except for his son Rabbi Meir’s wedding). The Brisker Rav did not have an official rabbinic position in the Land of Israel; as such, he allowed himself to refrain from officiating at weddings. This exceptional case before us involved the bride Tzirel (wife of R’ Nachman Feldman), who was a great granddaughter of the author of Beit HaLevi. And, as was known in Brisk, family relation (even distant) was sufficient cause for making an exception to rules and limits (apparently due to concern for “Do not hide yourself from your kin”), so he made an exception to his custom and officiated at the wedding. (Refer to HaRav MiBrisk by Rabbi Shimon Yosef Muller, Part I, page 21.) Rabbi Yitzchak Ze’ev HaLevi Soloveitchik [1886-1959] was a son of the gaon Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik of Brisk, and grandson of the “Beit HaLevi.” He was rabbi of Brisk, then one of the leaders of Chareidi Jewry in the Land of Israel. He was known as a prodigy, already knowing the entire Talmud by heart at the age of 16. He was his father’s primary disciple in terms of study methodology: in-depth analysis of the basic elements of the halachah, and raising new insights derived from the precise roots of the law. He was one of the greatest leaders of the Chareidi public. His books include: Chiddushei Maran Ry”z HaLevi al HaRamba”m and Chiddushei HaGry”z. [1] leaf official stationery, 25 cm. Fine condition.
