In the volume before us we have the signatures in red ink “Shlomo Zalman Baharan [Ben HaRav Nachum], of blessed memory, Levy. The father Rabbi Nachum served as the Rabbi in Szadek in Poland. In the year [1844]] he made Aliyah to Jerusalem with his brothers and children. From them came important families in Jerusalem: Levy, Baharan, Weissfish, Porush and others.
Rabbi Shlomo Zalman (1836-1910) was one of the financial supporters of the Va’ad HaKlali. In the framework of his position he worked on building new neighborhoods in Jerusalem, among them Sha’arei Chesed. A few months after his death his daughter Tzivia gave birth to Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, zeicher tzaddik l’vrachah.
