Most of the books in auctions are unique in one or two of the parameters. Seldom, in three of the parameters and then it is considered rare. It is rare to find a book unique in each of the parameters, like this one, who is unique in its 1. content. 2. the commentaries it introduces. 3. the printing house where it was printed. 4. the book’s owner.
The Hagahot Hagra introduced in it : it is common knowledge that Hagahot Hagra is one of the most important, deep and common Talmudic commentaries that were printed and often, lengthy commentaries were written on a single word from it. This is the first edition of ‘Hagahot Hagra’ – and certainly on Tractate Sofrim – that was ever printed!
The printing house in Suvalk where the book was printed : this printing house printed only four Hebrew books and this is the first book that was printed there!
The owner of the book : Appearing on the title page and the following leaf are two ownership stamps of the Gaon Rabbi Meir Robinson Av Beit Din of Radushkevitz – one of the important rabbinates in Lithuania, who was considered one of the greatest rabbis of Lithuania.
For the biography of the Gaon Rabbi Meir Robinson [1852-1936] please see Hebrew description.
