Mivchar HaPeninim by Rabbi Shlomo ibn Gabriol with the Kol Yehudah commentary by Rabbi Yehudah Leib son of Yaakov Shapira, rabbi of Opina, Zamut – Lithuania. The book with Rabbi Yehudah Leib Shapira’s commentary was printed in Vilna in 1875. Before us is the author’s manuscript from 1873 with many differences from the printed version, it is a draft and not the fuller version which was printed in 1875.
On the leaves before and after Mivchar HaPeninim the author copied sermons and speeches of his own and of his rabbi’s, Rabbi Moshe Yitzchak HaLevi, with his additions. A eulogy for his rabbi is also included.
Rabbi Yehudah Leib was born to his father Rabbi Yaakov in Krozh. He was a disciple of Rabbi Moshe Yitzchak HaLevi. He served as the rabbi of Opina, which is in the Zamut region of Lithuania. He published Mivchar HaPeninim with the Kol Yehudah commentary in 1875 in Vilna.
Condition: Fine condition, aging stains, original cardboard binding. Lacking one leaf.
