The author was a rabbi and doctor in several Italian cities – Venice, Rovigo, Modina and Mantua. He was a disciple of Rabbi Yehudah Aryeh of Modena, who also granted him rabbinic ordination. He married the daughter of Rabbi Nethaniel Tarbut of Modena, and in honor of the wedding, he wrote a song, which appears in this book.
