Nachlat Avot. Mussar by Rabbi Meir ben Rabbi Eliyahu and a will to his sons, on the eve of his immigration to Eretz Yisrael. Vilna, [1835]. First and rare edition.
[15], 25 leaves. 16 cm. Light-blue paper.
Bibliographers and researchers of the history of the family of the GR”A and his disciples missed this work – possibly because the author wrote it anonymously. His name is only alluded to in acrostics in a nice poem on the back of the title page – without noting his lineage. However, on leaf 14 he mentions words of his grandfather, Rabbi Avraham the brother of the GR”A. The note reveals that the author was Rabbi Meir ben Rabbi Eliyahu ben Rabbi Avraham – the brother of the GR”A. On leaf 14, the author also mentions his book on Pirkei Avot. He printed both his works in Vilna in 1836: his Pirkei Avot with the commentary of the GR”A and “Derech Avot”, and this work. He then immigrated to Eretz Yisrael with the disciples of the GR”A. He passed away on the 28th of Nissan, 1842. Refer to Vinograd, Sifrei HaGRA 320.
