Chilling historic document: poster the Nazis hung in the Odessa streets during the Holocaust with instructions and warnings for the Jews. The announcement is printed in two languages, Romanian and Ukrainian, apparently printed at the beginning of the Nazi occupation of the city. There are four sections in the announcement:
The first is that the Jews may not leave their homes before midday. The second is that if a Jew is caught outside his home during the forbidden hours, he will immediately be sent to the place of assembly for transports, and as an additional punishment, that Jew will not be allowed to return to the ghetto to bring his family with him; he will be transported by himself and his family will remain in the ghetto. The third is that the market in the ghetto will open at 12:30; it is prohibited to work before that hour, and anyone caught transgressing this law will be detained by the Odessa police.
In addition, the poster indicates that it is prohibited for (gentile) homeowners to hide Jews and not report their location, whoever is caught will be tried in court.
