Nishmat Chaim – Precious, sublime sermons about the pure soul by Rabbi Menashe Ben-Israel, Leipzig 1862. The Admor of Alexander’s signature appears on the leaf following the title page: “Betzalel Yair BHH”Z ZTzLLH”H”, as well as many of his stamps on the title page and several leaves. There are many in-depth glosses by a number of writers, some may be written by the Admor of Alexander.
The Holy Admor Rabbi Betzalel Yair of Alexander [1865-1935] was the son of the founder of the Alexander dynasty, Rabbi Yechiel Danziger, son of the holy rabbi Shraga Feivel of Gritza. He was beloved and admired by his great father. After his father’s passing, the Chassidim clung to him, but he refused to receive them as Admor and he accepted the authority of his brother, the holy rabbi, author of Yismach Yisrael .
He also refused to receive Chassidim after the Yismach Yisrael’s passing; he clung to his brother, author of Tiferet Shmuel . After the war’s conclusion, he remained in Lodz where he stood at the head of the independent study hall, and some Alexander Chassidim connected to him. He would say his Torah thoughts from his brother’s, the Yismach Yisrael’s books. He was murdered in the Chełmno camp on Rosh HaShanah 1942. After his passing, his son Rabbi Avraham Yehudah succeeded him. After the Holocaust, in which his nephew Rabbi Yitzchak Menachem (son of his brother Rabbi Shmuel Tzvi) who had served as Admor of the Alexander Chassidim, was murdered, the remnants of the Chassidim appointed his son-in-law/nephew Rabbi Yehudah Moshe Tyberg as Admor of Alexander.
The Admor’s signature as well as books with his stamp are vary rare.
