Haggadah marking the eighth grade graduation of the 13th class of the Givat HaShloshah elementary school, [1952]. Stencil print with illustrations, some hand-colored. Rare haggadah.
This work is a humorous take on the traditional haggadah. All of the traditional texts have been replaced with references to the eighth grade graduation of the Givat HaShloshah elementary school, the graduation party and various events that happened to the graduating class that year: ” Ha Lachma Anya … this is the poor bread that the students of the 8th grade ate in Givat HaShloshah, whoever wishes can be set free from their studies.” The Mah Nishtanah text also refers to emancipation: “All the nights we do homework, and this night we all celebrate … All nights Diki comes to put us to sleep and tonight he is beside us.” The text ” VaYishritzu Me’od ” relating to the Israelites in Egypt, has been replaced with: “The teachers multiplied in our school and filled the classrooms and a new generation of students stood up against the teacher and said: our teachers are many and strong, let us outsmart them to receive only one teacher … and they made their lives bitter … by checking the tests with hieroglyphics ”
In place of the text regarding Rabbi Gamliel: “Whoever does not recite these three things during the graduation, has not fulfilled his obligation … Passover is the tests, since every student is happy when they pass over him. Matzah is the students, since their brains have not stopped fermenting due to the large amount of studies. Bitter herbs (Maror) are the teachers, why? Because they embittered our lives in the class throughout the year …” and more.
The text of ” Echad Mi Yodeah ,” has been switched with “One is the dictator, our teacher, two is bathrooms for boys and for girls … our four last days of studies … seven days we traveled in the Galilee …” and more.
All the passages of the haggadah have been switched with humorous texts relating to the school and graduation.
Rare haggadah that does not appear in Steiner’s list of kibbutz haggadot and is not in the National Library.
