Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis (1864-1953) was born in Lithuania. When he was 17, he arrived in Volozhin where he studied under his primary Rebbe, the Netziv, who called him a “Living Talmud,” and under Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik. He was known for his genius. He was av”d in Bodki and Kalvarija. In 1938 he immigrated to Jerusalem and served as the rav”d of the Eidah HaCharedis, and from 1949 as gav”d until his death in 1953.
